Reactive Suspension - Services

Reactive Suspension services

Our staff have undertaken extensive training in specialist areas of suspension tuning, and our workshop has been fitted out with the very latest tools and equipment necessary to be able to carry out work to an extremely high standard.

We have been very careful to only supply products of the very highest quality, and we provide extensive customer support. We have a very quick turnaround on forks, slashing the time your bike is out of action.

Please contact us for full details of our services; if it involves suspension we do it.

Shock & Fork Servicing

Shock & Fork ServicingDuring a service the suspension units are fully disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and inspected for wear, fork stanchions and shock shafts are polished to remove any pitting which could damage seals, and reduce stiction. If necessary shock bodies and cartridge tubes are honed to improve sealing. The components are measured for correct tolerances and the units assembled using the finest lubricants available.

Unfortunately, most riders don't service their suspension until they notice a significant deterioration in the performance.

The forks should be serviced at least once mid-season if your racing and annually for road use.
It's a fact of life that the reciprocating motion of the forks causes parts to wear adding minute particles of debris to the oil, the oil holds a lot of this debris in suspension so it constantly flows in and out of the cartridge and passes through the valving. The shims in the valve stack work at very low lift values so any debris passing through there can get wedged holding the valving open and disabling it.

Ideally the forks need to be completely dismantled, cleaned, and reassembled. It's the only way to ensure that the cartridge and valve stack are clean and to get all of the sediment from the bottom of the forks. Aftermarket Shocks don't contaminate the oil as quickly as other shocks, the internal parts are hard anodised, significantly reducing the wear rate, so an annual service should be sufficient. A lot of Ohlins shocks have a steel body and should be serviced mid season.

Titanium Nitride Coating

Titanium Nitride Coating is a very hard (2500 HV), low friction gold coating applied to fork stanchions and shock shafts. It has a higher hardness rating than hard chrome giving a greater wear resistance and is a non-stick surface with a very low coefficient of friction (0.65) reducing stiction.

The coating forms a metallurgical bond to the surface of the coated part that will not flake, blister, chip or peel.

Diamond Like Coating

Diamond Like Coating is an extremely hard (3500HV) black coating applied to fork stanchions and shock shafts that is harder still than Titanium Nitride.

With a coefficient of friction of 0.1 it is the lowest friction coating available providing a very low stiction surface improving suspension action considerably.

Replacement Fork Stanchions, Hard Chrome Plating

If you have badly corroded fork stanchions it is usually cheaper to replace the tubes than have them re-chromed, in the rare instance that we can’t supply new tubes we can hard chrome plate yours to their original condition.

Hard Anodising

Stock aluminium components have little if any hard coating on them these components then wear quickly contaminating the oil. The anodising process provides a method of electrolytically increasing the thickness of the naturally occurring oxide film on aluminium and its alloys, to give a coating which is extremely hard and wear resistant, both glass and hard chrome plate can be scratched by a hard anodised needle.

The porosity of a hard anodic film, though relatively low, is nevertheless sufficient to accept impregnation with dyes to produce a decorative colour and also to accept PTFE giving a non-stick finish having outstanding wear life and a coefficient of friction lower than 0.05.

Powder Coating

Whilst your shock is being serviced we can powder coat the spring to make your shock look like new, or powder coat the fork sliders on conventional forks to improve the bikes appearance.

Trackside Suspension Support

We will be attending a number of race, test and trackday events to provide support for customers.

We are also available for exclusive race testing or suspension support required by groups or individuals attending trackdays. We will work with you to establish the optimum settings that best suit your riding style allowing you to extract the maximum performance from the machine.

Trackside Data Analysis

We have an Aim Sports plug and play datalogger that connects straight in to your standard wiring loom to enable us to analyse your suspension and riding performance on the track, contact us for more information.

We are fully conversant with the leading data analysis software and are available to attend tests and race meetings to analyse data.
